On this page you will learn how to create a free website to promote online products.

For our example, we will be using the free site squidoo.com

That particular site makes it easy to really learn how to do Internet Marketing in 2012!

First click on the “Create a Lens!” button.

Don’t worry, they call it a “lens” but it’s just a free website.

You will be presented with the following screen:

Decide on a topic for the “my page is about:”

You can always edit it later, so don’t worry about it too much.

This is actually the title of your lens, so the first letter should be capitalized. I found that Google loves punctuation somewhere in the title; things like ()!%&*-+ so don’t be shy about that.

For step 2, fill out all of the settings. It is self-explanatory.

The most important setting is the “set your lens URL;” because it cannot be changed later; no matter how much you scream.

Don’t ignore the “open graph” settings because that is a crucial tag to get your lens discovered worldwide.

To grab traffic from the search engines; you need to use tags which are high-volume, low-competition.

To find the best tags to attract BUYERS, do this:

Go to the amazon.com site and look up the product that you wish to promote.

Scroll down until you see “Tags Customers Associate with This Product.”

Grab these incredible “buyer keywords” to use for your squidoo lens “tags!”

Here is an example. Let’s say we are looking for tags for this product:

This will (over time) attract page views from people interested in the product that you are promoting.

That is the only tool I ever use because it is fast and accurate.

But wait until you are really ready to re-invest in your business because there is a $19 monthly charge for this (well worth it though).

Back to our lens creation…

Do NOT click PUBLISH until everything is done.

Click on the “add modules” button at the top.

Choose up to 12 or more “Text with BIG picture” modules. You can start with just a few at first, but I know from experience that Google loves a ton of useful and unique content and graphics.

The mistake a lot of people make with squidoo is they don’t make the content useful. Put yourself into the shoes of the customer.

You need to be DIFFERENT and INTERESTING! (And please don’t be afraid to have a sense of humor).

Would you stay on the page?

Another common error is to make the paragraphs TOO LONG. Most people are busy and don’t have time to read long blocks of text. Break up your content into 2 or 3 sentences at a time. Then leave a space (or something interesting like a video or photo) before making the next one.

Choose the following modules as well:

• Poll
• eBay
• Big Arrow Link
• Google News

Optional but helpful:

• YouTube
• Stickynote
• Blackbox
• Polaroid
• Link List
• Countdown Clock

That’s all I ever used in my lenses, however this is an evolving science, so I would recommend that you experiment with new modules that get introduced once in a while.

After that, kill the default “featured lens” module; unless you would like to highlight another related lens you own.

To create a “table of contents,” click on the “edit.”

All of the settings on the right hand side have to be filled in as well.

Pick a good theme. I use the “New York” theme.

Write a BIO and include a photo (you can insert a link here as well).

Fill out all of the information in the “how do you want to get paid” drop down menu.

For the content, you will need a photo and a write-up for each text module.
